For several decades, Dr. Rajan Mahtani has been working towards the welfare and overall social and economic development of Zambia and its people. His contributions were finally recognised at an international level in the year 2021. This recognition came from Forbes, which is one of the top business magazines across the globe. Forbes had recently organized the Forbes ‘Best of Africa’ award ceremony during the FIN ‘Philanthropy and leadership roundtable conference.’ The FIN roundtable conference is among the most anticipated and sought-after business events in Africa. Normally, the FIN event takes place in New York. However, this year’s FIN event was held online as a result of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and members participated from their respective locations. Also, the event was broadcasted across the globe via YouTube medium. Dr.Rajan Mahtani was also invited in this event as an honorary speaker and spoke about the significance of leadership in healthcare, which has been all the more realised during this time of the pandemic. Apart from Dr. Rajan Mahtani, several other members participated in the FIN event. Apart from his contributions towards the banking sector Zambia, Dr. Rajan Mahtani was also recognised for his philanthropic contributions including Prison Fellowship Zambia as well as Stephen Malama award and Scholarship for top law graduates in Zambia.
His company Prison Fellowship came into news recently when the Zambian President announced that his government plans to abolish the death penalty from its core. Prison Fellowship Zambia is a noted Christian Outreach Program that focusses on bringing the teachings of Jesus Christ to be prisoners, ex-prisoners and their families in Zambia. The program also works towards ensuring fundamental human rights and basic human dignity for the prisoners as well as providing them with transparent criminal justice. As such, Dr. Rajan Mahtani said that his company Prison Fellowship Zambia will provide full legal and regulatory support towards this decision from the Zambian President.
