Africa day is a special occasion that is celebrated across the entire subcontinent. It is celebrated annually on 25th May to commemorate the Freedom Day or Liberation Day of the African subcontinent. It is also the foundation day of the African Unity Organization. Apart from African nations, the day is also celebrated across several parts of the world. The Africa day celebration for the year 2022 was special as on this day, the President of Zambia made a stunning announcement. On this day, President Hakainde Hichilema announced that he is planning to completely abolish the death penalty raw from Zambian law and order. Since this announcement, several positive responses have come along. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, a noted businessman and philanthropist from Zambia, also extended his full support towards this recent announcement made by the Zambian President. Dr. Rajan Mahtani, further adding to the President’s statement, stated that the concept of death penalty is cruel, inhumane, and degrading and must be abolished. Across the globe, death penalty has already been abolished across the majority of nations and that trend can be seen across Zambia too. At the same time, Dr.Rajan Mahtani further stated that death penalty is not acceptable within the bible. According to the teachings and bible, the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross atoned for the sins of all humans who believe in him. In the Bible also, death penalty has seen as a sin and only those individuals who have not sinned in their life are allowed to take the life of others. And finding a human being without any sin on this planet is a rarity.

While supporting the President’s statement, Dr.Rajan Mahtani stated that his company Prison Fellowship Zambia (PFZ) will provide full legal and regulatory support towards his decision.
